15,000 Sanitation Contract Workers Deputed for Pushkaralu

Krishna Pushkaralu are going to start from August 12, thousands of sanitation contract workers have been deployed and they have joined duties on Wednesday to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in and around bathing ghats, Pushkarnagars and important junctions of the city during the Krishna Pushkaralu.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has spent Rs 186 crore on various development works. Rs 3 crore is estimated to be spent on sanitation workers as well as to purchase cleaning material, including cleaning chemicals, soaps, detergents, baskets, dust bins, gloves among others.

Mayor K. Sridhar said that “the development works include construction of roads, widening, footpaths, drains, streetlights, ghats, construction of community halls, improving greenery and beautifying the parks.”

He added “we have spent Rs 95 crore for widening and developing roads in the city and the remaining amount was spent on various other works. Various works include construction of 56 roads, one auditorium, 10 Pushkar Nagars in the city and eight out of city, 2,800 temporary toilets, 285 tanks for drinking water supply, of two crore water packets and 12 lakh buttermilk packets and construction of 16 sheds for rituals, along the ghats in view of the Krishna Pushkaralu.”

Special store rooms have been set up by the VMC so that has cleaning materials can be supplied quickly as per the needs. The VMC has also bought 15,000 contract workers who came from different parts of the State for 18 days.

These workers are expected to work in three shifts 24x7 till August 26. Though Pushkaralu concludes on August 23, these workers will work three more days to restore the hygiene in the city after the visit of lakhs of pilgrims.
