Hyderabad Building Collapse: 11 Killed & 2 Rescued; Owner Arrested

Around 11 dead bodies were recovered from the six storey under construction building which collapsed on Thursday in Nanakramguda in Hyderabad. Two people including a minor were rescued from the debris on Friday. According to the officials, there were no survivors apart from the two rescued.
The owner of the building who was absconding from Thursday was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Saturday.
All the victims were the workers who lived in the basement of the building. Except for one family, all others belonged to Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
NDRF personnel along with local administration members did the rescue operation at the site.
Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan told news agency PTI that "the rescue work took time as the lane leading to the building was narrow."
Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao also visited the spot on Friday. He announced exgratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of those killed.
"The state government would take tough action against the building owner for an alleged violation of construction rules as well as the civic officials who looked the other way”, he said.
N Narsimha Reddy and P Padmarao, ministers in the state government, were also present on Friday to supervise the rescue operations.
Cyberabad police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya told PTI that "Rekha, a 35-year-old, and her son (4), who hailed from Chhattisgarh, were pulled out alive from the crash site Friday. The woman and her son were admitted to a hospital for treatment."
"The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, has been asked to investigate the cause of the collapse. A preliminary report in this regard was expected tonight", the GHMC said.
"The state government has also requested the secretary of Municipal Administration Department to examine the relevant issues and suggest systemic improvements prevent such incidents in future", it added.
After hearing about the incident, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya met Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who was in Delhi. Sattatreya discussed the incident with the Chief Minister.
"Dattatreya also directed Labour Ministry officials in Hyderabad to provide necessary help to the victims", a release from the Union Minister said.
