In a shocking incident, a woman from Meerut got shocked when she found nearly Rs. 100 crore in her Jan Dhan account in a Meerut branch on Monday.
When the bank officials did not help her she sought the PMO's help. The complaint was filed by Sheetal Yadav's husband, Ziledar Singh.
In the complaint to the PMO, she said "I maintained a Jan Dhan account in Sharda road branch of the State Bank of India (SBI). On December 18, when I went to draw money from the ATM of ICICI Bank near my house, was shocked to see that my account stood at Rs. 99,99,99,394. Unable to believe it, I asked the person standing next to me in the queue to check it and he confirmed the same amount."
Sheetal immediately went to YES Bank ATM to confirm and found the same balance. She kept on visiting her bank for two days but the staff did not respond to her complaint and asked her to come next day. The bank staff said that the branch manager would help her to rectify the matter. When she went next day to the bank, she was again sent back.
Ziledar Singh works in a transformer manufacturing company. He said that "my wife works in the packaging department of a factory. She draws Rs. 5,000 per month while he also works on a meagre salary." They were shocked to find such huge amount in their account.
Frustrated over the local bank staff's attitude, Ziledar Singh said: "I asked an educated person to help me to send a mail to the PMO."
"We have posted a mail on December 26 to the PMO to help us in solving our problem from where about Rs. 100 crore came from the account where the maximum limit of deposit is restricted to Rs. 50,000 only," he said, showing the ATM slips and bank passbook to the media.
