Ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), might have not expected to face a defeat in the Teachers' MLC elections.
The TDP nominees, have defeated YSRC candidates in Kurnool, Kadapa and Nellore in the biennial elections, from the Local Authorities Constituencies (LACs), which were held on 17 March.
Unfortunately, TDP has lost its seats in both East and West Rayalaseema.
The biggest shock for the TDP came today in its stronghold East Rayalaseema constituency (Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam districts), where its TDP-supported candidate, Vasudeva Naidu was defeated by YSRC Party-backed Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) candidate, by 3553 votes.
And in its West Rayalaseema constituency (Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts), where sitting MLC and TDP candidate Bachala Pullaiah, was defeated by STU candidate Kathi Narasimha Reddy, with a majority of 3763 votes.
The YSRC leaders, after the results of Teachers’ MLC polls were out, criticized the ruling party, saying that, TDP would have lost in MLC elections, as well, if it had not achieved success of the Cross Voting, by devious means.
Previously, the TDP has already bagged all the six Council seats from LACs, where candidates were elected unopposed. These seats are from, Srikakulam, two seats from the West Godavari, East Godavari, Chittoor and Anantapuram LACs.
The unopposed elected candidates who were delcared in the first week of March, were, Former Ministers Satrucharla Vijaya Rama Raju (Srikakulam), Chikkala Ramachandra Rao (East Godavari), sitting MLC Angara Ramamohan and Mantena Satyanarayana Raju (West Godavari), B Rajanarasimhulu alias Dorababu (Chittoor) and Deepak Reddy (Anantapur).
In the elections held on Monday in Kadapa, S Vivekananda Reddy, the uncle of YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was defeated by TDP's B Ravi by a margin of 34 votes.
S Vivekananda Reddy, had earlier served as an MP, MLC and MLA for many terms.
In Nellore, TDP nominee and sitting legislator, Vakati Narayana Reddy won the LAC seat over YSRCP nominee, Anam Vijaykumar Reddy by a margin of 87 votes.
Whereas, in the Kurnool MLC Local Authorities’ Constituency, TDP's MLC Silpa Chakrapani Reddy secured re-election against Gouru Venkata Reddy of YSRC by a margin of 64 votes.
