Delhi Police Issue Summons To TTV Dinakaran In Bribery Case

The Delhi Police officials, on yesterday night, served summons to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Deputy General Secretary, TTV Dinakaran.

The summon to Dinakaran was filed by Assistant Commissioner Sanjay and another official, at his upscale Besant Nagar residence in Chennai.

Dinakaran was allegedly charged an FIR, in case of offering bribe to the Election Commission (EC) officials, for retrieving the party’s “Two Leaves” symbol.

However, it is not known when Dinakaran has been asked to appear before them. The Delhi police officials, who were inside Dinakaran’s house, for about 20 minutes, refused to speak to the awaiting media, while leaving the premises. Meanwhile, anxiety and tension prevailed for a while, as a party worker tried to set himself ablaze to show his opposition to the police. Other cadres and some plainclothesmen, foiled the self-immolation bid. The Delhi police have issued a lookout notice against Dinakaran, yesterday.

Police said, the lookout notice was issued, in the wake of inputs that Dinakaran was an NRI and could try to flee the country. Last night, Dinakaran is already facing the heat as the AIADMK Amma faction, comprising K Palanisamy cabinet, decided to remove party General Secretary, V.K Sasikala and her nephew Dinakaran from the party.

Dinakaran, today virtually questioned the need for lookout notice, stating, “How will I flee from the country, when my passport, is in the Court for 20 years?” The Crime branch earlier arrested an alleged middlemen, named Sukesh Chandrasekhar, in connection with the matter. Sukesh claimed that he told Dinakaran that he will get favorable judgment from the EC of India, in the party symbol case. He even told Dinakaran, that he has contacts in the EC, and his contacts will in turn help the Sasikala faction get the AIADMK’s poll symbol of two leaves in a byboll to the R K Nagar Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu.

The police received a tip-off from an informer about Election Commission officials being approached for bribe, after which they got on Chandrasekhar’s trial. The middle men struck a deal of Rs 50 crore for helping the AIADMK faction keep the “two leaves” symbol, says reports. Chandrasekhar, till now, has received Rs 10 crore of the deal amount, and the remaining amount was given to him in a time-bound manner. The money was received by him through some Chandni Chowk-based hawala operators and police is investigating the hawala link. Sukesh, was taken yesterday to Chandni Chowk by the Crime Branch officers to identify the hawala operators.

Soon after the arrest of Sukesh, Dinakaran asserted that he will face the matter legally and denied any knowledge of Chandrasekhar.
