Following four days of questioning, Dinakaran was arrested on Tuesday before in connection with an alleged bribery case to the Election Commission (EC) officials, to get the undivided AIADMK’s “Two Leaves” election symbol for his faction. The Delhi police team, who is investigating the case brought the both accused by flight from the national capital and they arrived a little after 1 P.M.

Warrants had been given to the Delhi Police to search the residences of Dinakaran and Mallikarjuna, as part of their investigation. The Delhi Police, will also be confronting the middleman, Sukesh Chandrasekar, along with the duo, to get the details of the money trail and the phone conversations between them. The Police earlier claimed that Chandrasekar had struck a Rs 50 crore deal to help the AIADMK faction get the party symbol. When he was arrested from a five-star hotel, Hyatt, in Delhi on April 16, Chandrasekar had Rs 1.30 crore in cash in his possession.
Dinakaran was allegedly arrested for arranging the amount from undisclosed sources and getting it transferred through illegal channels, from Chennai to Delhi. His close friend, Mallikarjuna was also arrested for helping the AIADMK leader, in transferring the money. However, the Police are verifying whether Chandrasekar had approached any EC official for getting a favorable verdict for Dhinakaran’s faction.
Earlier, Dinakaran had faced a revolt by some of the Ministers, even as efforts are still going on for the merger of the rival factions led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister EK Palanisamy and his predecessor O Panneerselvam.
