Vice Presidential Elections To Be Held On August 5?:- The Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi announced at a press conference on Thursday that the Vice Presidential Elections will be held on August 5. Moreover, the results will be announced on the same day.

Zaidi said, the last date for filing the nominations is July 18. For the post of Vice President, the election is conducted through a secret ballot, where only members of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha get to vote. The Electoral College comprises of 790 members, out of which 245 are Rajya Sabha MPs and 545 are Lok Sabha MPs.

To become a Vice-President, a person needs to satisfy the following criteria :

1) Needs to be a citizen of India

2) Is at least 35 years old or above.

3) Is qualified to become a member of the Rajya Sabha

At least 20 electors as proposers and at least another 20 electors as seconders, subscribe the candidate’s nomination papers. From every candidate, a security deposit of Rs 15,000 will be collected.

The term of the incumbent Vice President Mr. Hamid Ansari will end on August 10. Despite the Opposition enjoying a majority in the Upper House, it is unlikely that he will be elected for a third term.
