Huge Gold Robbery In Vijayawada City:- In a major act of theft, a gold ornaments unit was looted by an inter-state dacoit gang, at Besent Road in the city on Tuesday evening.

After threatening the workers with knives and guns, and looting seven kg gold from the unit, the miscreant ran away. The gang which comprised of seven thieves, then got into a Maruti Ertiga car and fled towards Guntur.

A police team immediately swung into action, on receiving information from the gold shop employees. The police spotted the car and chased it up to Chilukaluripet cross roads. The thieves, however, left the car there and ran away in different directions.  

The police teams are yet to identify any of the gang members and more police personnel were pressed into action on Wednesday morning. The car bearing a Maharashtra registration number - MH03 BC 9810 - is also suspected to be a stolen one. The police suspect that someone from the gold ornaments unit must have conspired with the thieves and provided them the required blueprint for the theft.

Some of the workers are being questioned while the police teams intensified the manhunt.

City Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang said the thieves must be still within the state borders and will be nabbed very soon.
