SC Grants Bail To Malegaon Blast Accused Lt. Col Shrikant Purohit:- The accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts, Lt. Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit, a former military intelligence officer, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court.

The apex court, while granting conditional bail to Purohit said, “we set aside order of Bombay High Court.” The apex court, earlier on August 17, reserved its order on the bail petition of Purohit.

Senior lawyer, Harish Salve, appearing for Purohit told the court that at present, he wants an interim bail for the interest of justice, and does not want to be discharged from the case. Salve told the apex court that in the political crossfire, Purohit was allegedly caught and was falsely implicated in the case.

The National Investigative Agency (NIA), opposing Purohit’s bail petition argued that the Bombay High Court order should be upheld by the apex court. The Bombay High court, earlier rejected Purohit’s bail petition saying the charges against him were of a grave nature, after which he moved to the top court.

Along with Sadhvi Pragya and others, Purohit is one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts. The Bombay High Court had granted relief to Sadhvi Pragya in the case. The Malegaon blasts claimed 4 lives and left nearly 79 injured.
