Anti-Sterlite Protests In Thoothukudi Leaves 11 Dead: Govt Orders Judicial Inquiry:- Tamil Nadu Police resorted to firing along with the lathi charge because of which eleven people lost their lives after people staged protest against the Sterlite's industrial plant in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin). The incident took place on Tuesday and it left the whole nation in deep shock. Citing the pollution the plant has been generating, the locals have been demanding the closure of the plant. With hundreds gathering to protest, cops have been deployed in huge numbers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced a judicial inquiry about the incident. Superstar Rajinikanth called the incident unfortunate and DMK working president MK Stalin condemned the attack on the people. Several politicians and film celebrities responded on the incident. Kamal Haasan blamed the government asking them to take the responsibility for the incident. Section 144 has been imposed in Thoothukudi and the residents are in plans to intensify the agitation today. Cops have been deployed in huge numbers and the situations turned tensed.
