Chandra Babu Reviews Polavaram Works at Project Site:- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu yesterday held a review meeting at the project site of the Polavaram project. Surprisingly, several senior government officials were not present for the meeting including the Irrigation Secretary Sashi Bhushan. The district Collector of West Godavari district too went missing for the review meeting of the Chief Minister. Chandra Babu clarified that 70% of the works have been completed and the entire project will start operating next year.

Chandra Babu reminded that it was his government who started work of Polavaram though the project was on paper from 1941. He conducted 90 virtual inspections from Amaravati and visited the site personally 35 times. Babu said 25.72 metres of spillway construction has been completed out of the total 45.72 metres. The construction of earth-cum-rock-filled (ECRF) dam is yet to start. Over 86% of the earth excavation work, 89% of the radial gates fabrication work along with 70% of the spillway and spill channel concrete work are done.

Chandra Babu revealed that Rs 16,493 crores is the total expenditure for Polavaram project and Rs 5135 crores is the share of the state government. The Centre released Rs 6725 crores for the project till date.
