Supreme Court has a shock for 21 Opposition Parties:- A petition has been filed by 21 opposition parties in the country and they requested to increase the physical verification of Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. AP Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu along with several opposition parties have been present in the courtroom for the hearing. NC Chief Farooq Abdullah and CPI leader D Raja too were present. Chief Justice Gogoi dismissed the petition and said that they are not inclined to review the order at present.
Earlier on April 8th, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to increase the VVPAT slips with EVMS from one of the five polling booths in each Assembly constituency. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi headed the bench which revealed their decision today. The Supreme Court had on Monday increased voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) from one EVM per Assembly segment to five randomly selected Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). But the court said that 50% increase would not be possible and dismissed the plea.
