President's Rule in Maharashtra: Latest Updates:- After a huge high drama for almost two weeks, no party proved their strength to form the government after which President's Rule has been imposed in Maharashtra. After BJP rejected forming the government, Shiv Sena, NCP failed to prove their strength. Though the talks were on, none of them could join hands with the other party and get a clear majority. Shiv Sena is all set to challenge the imposition in the Supreme Court today. Maharashtra Governor informed the President about the status of the state. Shiv Sena and NCP failed to utilize the 24-hour window each.

Shiv Sena filed a plea initially before the top court challenging Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's decision to deny their demand for 72 hours to submit letters of support and form the government. PM Narendra Modi called an unscheduled Cabinet meeting and approved the Governor's recommendation. President Ram Nath Kovind who is in Punjab approved the rule after his return. Article 356 of the Constitution gives the President the power to suspend the state government and impose President’s Rule if no party proves their majority in the state.

Maharashtra now comes under the control of the Centre and the Governor is the head of the state. Maharashtra will have no council of ministers and the Chief Minister's office will be vacant.
