SC Rejects Nirbhaya Convict's Petition Challenging President's Rejection

SC Rejects Nirbhaya Convict's Petition Challenging President's Rejection:- The four convicts in the Nirbhaya case have been announced to be hanged on February 1st at 6 AM but the accused are trying their best to get the hanging delayed. A series of petitions are filed challenging the rejection of the President's mercy plea. The Supreme Court today rejected the petition filed by Mukesh Singh, one of the accused in the Nirbhaya case. He challenged President Ramnath Kovind's rejection of his mercy plea. A bench comprising of Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna pronounced the verdict today. The Supreme Court said that they have no second thought in the case.

The Supreme Court even clarified that the President went through all the documents submitted and took a wise decision. The contention about the mercy plea was rejected by the Supreme Court. Anjana Prakash from Mukesh's counsel argued about the procedural lapses. Tushar Mehra, the Solicitor General appeared and produced all the necessary documents. The four convicts will now be hanged on February 1st as per the schedule. The security in the Tihar Jail has been tightened where the four convicts are staying.
