Telangana Top Priority for Bharat Biotech's COVID Vaccine Supply: KCR:- Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao ensured on Wednesday that the state government will get priority in the supply of Bharat Biotech's COVID vaccine when the manufacturing process gets completed.

The Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech will soon engage in talks with the state government to make sure Telangana is supplied with the vaccine first.

KCR told the assembly yesterday that as the company is based in the state, the vaccines will be manufactured in the state itself which ensures high priority for Telanagane to get vaccinated first.

This assurance from the Chief Minister comes after All India Majlis-e- Ittehadul Muslimeen leader Akbaruddin Owaisi raised the question on the COVID-19 situation in the state.

Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is currently in the phase 2 trials and Owaisi stressed that if the vaccine is being produced in the state, people of Telangana have the right to get it first.

Owaisi also praised the research being done by Bharat Biotech and said that the company has placed Telangana on the World health map.

Covaxin is the country's first indigenously developed coronavirus vaccine which has successfully completed the phase 1 trials.

The vaccine is likely to be launched in the start of 2021.

Covaxin is developed in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology.

The innate vaccine has been developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech's facility in Hyderabad.
