The Tussle Between AP Government And SEC Continues:- The Andhra Pradesh government issued strict orders and replaced the State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar from his position after Ramesh Kumar postponed the local body polls when the coronavirus pandemic attacked the country. The AP government sacked Ramesh Kumar after he approached the court and rejoined his position. With the wave of coronavirus cases coming down, Ramesh Kumar announced that the local body polls will be conducted in February next year and the notification for the same would be out soon. He also asked the AP Government to approve the election plan.

AP Chief Secretary Neelam Sahni rejected the proposal citing that the spread of coronavirus is high in the state. She penned a letter to Ramesh Kumar saying "AP Government feels that this would not be the right time to conduct the local body polls. It is not wise to compare about the pandemic with other states. 6890 people passed away in Andhra Pradesh and the Centre warned about the second wave of coronavirus during the winter season. It is not a wise decision to conduct the local body polls at this crucial time. The spread would be high in rural areas if the polls are conducted. Considering the current situations and the concern of the people of Andhra Pradesh, the government feels that is it not the right time to conduct the local body polls in February".

The AP Government also clarified that there is no need to attend any meeting about the polls through the video conference as they are not ready for the polls now.
