Kothapalli Geetha: Standing for Tribal welfare and Betterment:- India has the largest tribal population (about 8.6% of the total Indian population) in the world. But they are also the most marginalized section of society. Democracy and self-rule remain elusive in tribal India. The main reason: India has no policy for its tribal people.
Of the record many tribal leaders will tell you that it is impossible to represent tribal interests within the fold of political parties. "India's electoral system is all about getting funds for the parties. The money for the elections come from the corporations, the interests of whom run contrary to tribals," While many tribal leaders once they find a place in the political system, their cultural bond with their community is soon overtaken by an increasing mis-recognition of what tribals want, we have a highly educated, dedicated, successful tribal women who has proven to be different by standing with her own irrespective of her political status.
Kothapalli Geetha, a dynamic and dedicated tribal women quit her well-paying powerful public service (Dy. Collector) to help marginalized tribal community from where she comes from. She contested for Lok Sabha from Araku constituency and she represented the constituency during 2014-19. She was born to Kothapalli Jacob and Lizzamma on February 4th, 1971. Though she was brought up by a Christian convert family, she embraced Hinduism and came back to the roots. She believes in ‘Service to humanity is service to God’. Geetha ji completed her Bachelor of Arts in the year 1989, Bachelor of Education in the year 1990, both from Andhra University. She got married to philanthropist, successful entrepreneur Sri P Rama Koteswara Rao garu in the year 1989 and the couple are blessed with a son and a daughter. After serving the people as a public servant, she submitted her resignation to serve the tribals through politics.
Kothapalli Geetha turned out a pioneer and is focused on improving the conditions of the tribals and the regions. She worked hard to bring big foreign investments to the region. She was highly successfully in promoting Araku coffee which was internationally acclaimed. She also could mobilize and get funds from the union government increasing the road connectivity. She has achieved cent percent electrification of the huge agency area during her term. Her social service brought her enough followers.
In recent times, present governing party i.e the BJP, which calls the tribals vanvasi (forest dwellers) instead of adivasi (aboriginal dweller), is actively subverting tribal culture by bringing tribals into the mainstream. The country is eagerly awaiting to comprehensively review administration in tribal areas. A dedicated, passionate leader to serve & help tribals Gita ji got motivated with BJP’s agenda and merged her own party with BJP and since then serving for betterment of tribals. Many a times one can see her selfless service with her own funds and many tribals sees their own sister in her and approaches to their own vanavasi mahila akka.
She represented the ruling YSRCP party, but she later floated her own party Jana Jagruti party in the year 2018. She floated her own political party after challenging caste politics. She was not successful in running the party due to the different money & manipulative caste equations. She contested 35 assembly seats and 9 Lok Sabha seats and lost the election. Realizing that She has not enough resources to run the party, to attain her goal, she joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Amit Shah and Ram Madhav in 2019.
She is quite active across the circles of social media and is a strong criticizer of the problems that are faced by the people. Her recent attacks on the ruling YSRCP brought her wide recognition and Kothapalli Geetha ( tribals lovingly address her as Geethakka) is raising her voice against the odds of the YSRCP government.
