Election Commission clears Rythu Bandhu scheme:- Just a week before the elections in Telangana, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has granted permission to the state government to distribute funds to farmers through the Rythu Bandhu scheme. Under this scheme, farmers receive Rs 5,000 per acre for the rabi season, meaning a total of Rs 7,500 crore will be given to 70 lakh farmers. The ECI officials have announced that the distribution of funds for the rabi season will commence on Friday, following the guidelines set by the ECI.
They have assured that the direct benefit transfer under the scheme will not be affected, even on the day of the elections. It is worth noting that providing assistance through the Rythu Bandhu scheme shortly before the December 7 polls in 2018 resulted in significant electoral gains for the BRS party. In other news, the Andhra Pradesh government has declared a paid holiday for employees who are voters in Telangana as well as those working in nearby districts such as Eluru, NTR, Palnadu, Kurnool, Nandyala, and Alluri Sitharamaraju.
