Hyderabad nobody’s Land-Lagadapati August 10, 2013 15:55

Thousands of students participated in the peace march at Benz circle in the in Vijayawada that was flagged off by Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. While talking on the occasion, Lagadapati said that Hyderabad belongs all.  It is nobody’s property.  He demands withdrawal of the decision taken by the CWC to bifurcate the State.  He said that KCR is trying to intimidate Andhra Employees which is unwarranted. Lagadapati expressed his belief that everyone has to bow before the force of youth.  He said that the Samaikyandhra movement will be intensified in future and youth will be made to lead it. Protest continues in Krishna district August 02, 2013 17:43

Samaikyandhra protests are continuing in Krishna District.   Students formed human chains Vijayawada Ramavarappadu Ring.   It disrupted traffic on the highway.  Rallies are organized by SRR College Students at the college.  Women protesters against formation of Telangana shouted slogans at Vijayawada Bus Station. RTC buses in Krishna District were restricted to depots.  Business centers, traders and educational institutions in the district closed voluntarily.

Protests Intensified At Viajayawada August 01, 2013 17:13

Second day also the protests at Vijaywada went high. As per the bandh call given by the JAC, Students formed human chains at Benz circle that made traffic jams on National highway No.5 and 9. Lagadapati Rajagopal’s residence at Mogalrajapuram in Vijayawada was surrounded by Samaikyandhra supporters with the involvement of YSRCP leaders. Shop keepers, schools and cinema halls voluntarily closed.  Bus service became very poor in the city and also from the city. Rallies and protests, burning of effigies took place in the protests in the city in all busy and important areas.  The protest plan schedules include picketing the residence of Minister K.Pardhasaradhi in the evening. APNGO resolutions against T July 26, 2013 16:29

The Samaikyandhra was conducted by APNGO Association at Vijayawada. The members expressed their anger as the bifurcation of the State will disturb Andhra senior employees as they will have to be relocated.  They are in the opinion that the Center cannot take a decision on the division of the State without first coming for a solution for this problem. Samaikyandhra leaders conducted a round table conference on Thursday in which they were found in an aggressive mood.  They said that all Ministers should follow the leaders already resigned if Congress Party takes a decision to bifurcate the State.  They do not want that the Center should yield to the black mailing of those who demand a separateTelangana State.   The leaders of the Samaikyandhra reminded that in the Jai Andhra movement Hyderabad was not demanded but the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi assured that Hyderabad will always be the State’s capital. But Vijayawada has a local following of serving soup (Jawa)that is made of rice and vegetables in the mosques. The serving that is taking place at Bhavanipuram, Jama Masjid and Sarai Masjid to over 1000 devotees daily without restricting it to the Muslims. As non Muslims also go for the prayers in Dargah, the serving of Jawa is given to one and all who ever accept it. As per the seniors, the custom of serving jawa has been coming for so many years in Vijayawada as the jawa made with rice, onions, ginger, garlic tomato and coconut topped with mint and coriander gives strength to the body and also keeps heat out from the body. Old ladies attacked for gold July 17, 2013 13:04

Two ladies Kamalamma (87) and her daughter Shyama Sundari (60) residing in Brindavan Gardens at Guntur were attacked by a plumber Rajesh.  Kamalamma died in the attack and Shyama Sundari is hospitalized.  As per the details given by the police, Kamalamma called for a plumber to repair at her residence.  The plumber Rajesh must have an eye on the gold ornaments the ladies were possessing while working in the house.  The work was completed and paid for.   But he came back again in the night with an excuse of missing his bus to Vizag.  The plumber with a good impression he gave while working in the house could make them believe his story easily.  It happened last night.  Today he got early morning at 5.00 am to threaten them for money and gold ornaments.  When they refused to do so, he attacked Kamalamma with a knife and also hit on her head with a brick.  Kamalamma died on the spot.  But Shyama Sundari escaped it as she was thrown in to a room and locked from outside by Rajesh. Police booked a case of murder and robbery.  They say that the investigation will go further only after Shyama Sundari will be able to speak and give further details. (AW-SriJa)

DRM promises doubling of Vijayawada-Nidadavolu-Gudiwada lines March 07, 2013 19:44

The Vijayawada division divisional railway manager has managed promised the doubling of the Vijayawada-Nidadavolu-Gudiwada lines and said that the works would begin soon. Talking about the budget for rail, he said over Rs 1500 cr has been set aside for the works of doubling these line he told the media. The tenders for the contracts have also been finalized he added. These works are expected to take five years and they will be completed in diffrerent phases that have been spread around the five years. In the SCR railway division he said that premium facilities would be available to all the passengers in Vijayawada, and the department is working to achieve it soon he said. Soon, escalators and the lift facilities would be setup at the Vijayawada railway station for the old and the disabled people. Chiranjeevi likes to spend time with children November 14, 2012 13:10

Central minister Chiranjeevi has said that he would love to spend time with children. On the eve of Children's Day today, Chiranjeevi has taken part in special celebrations at Indira Gandhi stadium in Vijayawada today.  He has said that he would lose all tension in case he spends some ten minutes with children. Further, he has appealed the adults to understand the mentality of children and move accordingly. It is known that the first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary has been celebrated as children's day since he loved children. Despite his busy schedule Chiranjeevi took time to visit Vijayawada and take part in Children's Day celebrations. Vijayawada Solar city new logo launch June 09, 2012 16:56

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will organise Solar Power and Renewable Energy Expo 2012 from June 15 to 17 at the DRR Municipal Indoor Stadium as part of promoting Vijayawada as Solar City. At a press conference the Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu unveiled the new logo of Vijayawada Solar City, which will be used to promote alternative energy sources among people. A Rs.9.5 crore subsidy would be given to those opting to use alternative/ solar energy sources for lighting, heating water or other purposes. At the expo about 50 manufacturers from all over the country will exhibit their products. Citizens have been asked to have a look at that as the NEDCAP provides 30 per cent subsidy on majority of the alternative sources of energy equipment. The NEDCAP District Manager Satyanarayana said that the Central Government plan was to achieve 10 per cent dependence on alternative sources of energy in 10 years. The projected power need of the city would be estimated and solar energy promoted in a big way with the VMC as one of its partners, the Commissioner added. Vijayawada was chosen as one the 60 cities in the country to be covered under this plan. The Phillips and Efftronics will be the main sponsors of the Expo-2012. The expo will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 15 to 17) and seminars on solar energy, competitions for children and students would be some of the attractions with prizes given away.

GRP to introduce tag system for baggage in trains March 12, 2012 12:21

The government is taking several measures to control crime in trains and on platforms, said Vijayawada Government Railway Police (GRP) in-charge Superintendent of Police M. Kantha Rao. In view of the spurt in thefts in air-conditioned bogies, the railway police will introduce tag system for baggage in all trains in Vijayawada railway station soon. The tag containing the information of the passenger will be pasted on the luggage and checked while the passenger was alighting. Mr. Rao, who was the Superintendent of Police of Secunderabad GRP, took additional charge as the SP here on Saturday. Addressing the newsmen he said the government was organising combined training for the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the GRP in Secunderabad and a similar programme was proposed in Vijayawada too. To rehabilitate missing children and women on platforms, the railway police will arrange meetings with the Women Development and Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Board.
