The Telangana government free Wi-Fi facility in 17 locations spreading 8 km in Hyderabad on a pilot basis for 3 months with the help of leading telecom service provider AirTel. With this Hyderabad joins global cities like Seoul, Los Angels, San Jose, more than 50 cities in the US and another 100 in Europe to give free wireless internet to the citizens.
The free Internet service will be available from Cyber Towers to Madhapur Police Station, Cyber Towers to Kothaguda Junction and Cyber Towers to Raheja Mindspace Circle. To access the free Wi-Fi at the hot spot, users of any mobile number can switch on Wi-Fi in their smartphones, tablets or laptop devices. They will get a one-time password [OTP] and once the authentication process is completed, they can start browsing.
A user can use 750 MB per day and around 40,000 commuters can benefit from the service. If this pilot project succeeds, the government is looking to stretch this facility to the entire city by the year ending. Also the government is looking to involve other telecom service providers in this.
