Popular and sensational news channel NDTV is in trouble! The government has banned NDTV INDIA (hindi news channel) for one day on Nov 9. This action came after the channel allegedly revealed a very crucial information during its Pathankot terror attack coverage in January.
Under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, the Information & Broadcasting ministry imposed this ban.
For the first time such a ban has been imposed on a TV channel.
'NDTV has revealed strategically sensitive information during its report on the attacks that could have compromised the national security as well as endangered the lives of civilians and army personnel,' the committee allegedly said.
In a statement, NDTV described the ban as an attack on media freedom and added, "The order shocking. Every channel and newspaper had similar coverage but NDTV has been singled out. In fact NDTV's coverage was particularly balanced. After the dark days of the emergency when the press was fettered, it is extraordinary that NDTV is being proceeded against in this manner. NDTV is examining all options in this matter."
The channel can appeal the order before a tribunal.
