Mumbai Blasts Case: Life Sentence for Abu Salem:- Ganster Abu Salem has been announced convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case under different sections of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act or TADA. A special court today sentenced to life in this case. Two other convicts Tahir Merchant, Feroz Khan have been sentenced death. The fourth accused Karimullah Khan has been sentenced to life term. Abu Salem has been caught in Portugal after which he has been brought back to the country. The 1993 Mumbai blasts left 257 dead and 713 injured seriously.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wanted life imprisonment for Abu Salem who has been extradited in 2005 from Portugal. Another convict Mustafa Dossa has been brought back from UAE. Mustaffa died recently. Number of other convicts including Dawood Ibrahim have been on a run and have been never nabbed. This is the second part of the trail and the first one took place in 2007. Out of the 100 convicted people, 23 have been acquitted and the others have been missing. Yakub Memon has been hanged in 2015 in the same case.
13 serial blasts took place in quick succession in Mumbai on March 12th 1993. Abu Salem has been accused of bringing weapons from Gujarat to Mumbai. He was responsible for giving weapons to Sanjay Dutt. Around 750 people have been prosecuted and Abu Salem confessed the crime during the investigation.
