BJP MLA’s Controversial Remarks On Taj Mahal

BJP MLA’s Controversial Remarks On Taj Mahal:- A controversy has been stirred by BJP MLA Sangeet Som, by saying that Taj Mahal is a blot on Indian culture. He misquoted history by saying that Shah Jahan, builder of the 17th century marble mausoleum, had jailed his father and wanted to wipe out Hindus from the country.

These remarks by the Sardhana MLA in Meerut comes in wake after the Taj Mahal was removed from the list of attractions, by the Uttar Pradesh government, in its tourism booklet.

“Many people were disappointed that the Taj Mahal was removed from the UP tourism booklet. What history are we talking about? Whose history?

“The creator of the Taj Mahal (Shah Jahan) imprisoned his father. He wanted to wipe out all Hindus from India. If these people are part of our history, then it is very unfortunate.

“I guarantee you that we will change this history,” Som was shown saying in an undated viral video, apparently addressing a public gathering.

The BJP leader was addressing a gathering in Meerut, as per the TV reports. He wrongly quoted history saying Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan had jailed his father. It was Aurangzeb, Shah Jahan’s son who had dethroned and captivated his  father inside the Agra Fort. In memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj was built by Shah Jahan. It is considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The BJP is spreading hatred due to the narrow minded approach of its leaders, alleged the Opposition parties. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi slammed at the BJP. He said that the same group of traitors built the Red Fort. “Will Narendra Modi stop hoisting National Flag from there? Can Modi and Yogi ask Tourists not to visit Taj Mahal?,” he questioned.

The UP government, after the backlash, declared Taj Mahal is a part of India’s proud heritage. The views expressed by Sangeet Som are just his point of view and neither UP CM Yogi Adityanath nor his Government agree with them, said the UP government.

Taj Mahal is declared as the major tourist destination in the country by the UP government. It claims to be committed to the upliftment of Agra and Taj Mahal.
