39 Indian Airports to Get Hand-held Explosive Scanners: The security breach turned out to be a huge challenge for the country. Soon Indian airports are all set to get an additional layer of security. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) approved real time viewing systems for 39 airports across the country. These can detect bombs and disposal systems that are used to detect explosives and weapons. A hand-held device will be available across 39 airports that can detect any explosives.
Bomb detection and disposal squads are currently operating in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin and Hyderabad. The real-time viewing systems (RVTS) will now make things easier for the security personnel to identify the threat. They can evaluate the threat object from a safe distance which is the biggest advantage. They can even find the best method to dispose the explosive. AAI is in plans to introduce them across 39 airports across the country. RTVS will have a compact X-ray source and imaging unit that can trace the target and a standard notebook computer is used for controlling the system.
