53 Tea Garden Workers Dead For Consuming Spurious Liquor:- As many as 53 workers who work in a tea estate passed away after they consumed spurious liquor. This incident took place in Assam's Golaghat district and the incident took place after the workers consumed alcohol after they received their weekly wages. Several other works are battling for life and are admitted in Jorhat Medical College Hospital and at the Golaghat civil hospital in critical condition. Exactly two weeks ago, over 100 people passed away after drinking bootleg alcohol in North India.
Among the dead, seven were women and the incident took place at the plantation that is located 310 kms from Guwahati, the state's capital. The workers at Salmara tea garden consumed liquor and four women died initially. Soon 8 others died and finally, the death toll reached 53. The cops arrested the owners (Indukalpa Bordoloi and Deba Bora) of the liquor factory in Jugibaari region. The locals reported that this illicit liquor is sold for Rs 10 and Rs 20. Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has ordered a probe into the incident and an investigation is currently on.
