Supreme Court Gives Five Weeks For Filing Affidavits On Article 370:- The Supreme Court of India today fixed November 14th to commence the hearing on November 14th to hear the batch of petitions challenging the validity of Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370 which granted special status for Jammu and Kashmir. A bench headed by Justice NV Ramana allowed the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir to file counter-affidavits on the petitions about Article 370. The top court also rejected the plea of some of the petitioners and said that only two weeks will be given to the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir for filing their counter-affidavits.

The court also allowed a week time for the petitioners to file their replies to the counter-affidavits. The bench comprises of justices S K Kaul, R Subhash Reddy, B R Gavai and Surya Kant. After the Centre announced their decision to scrap Article 370 on August 5th, several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court. The Union Territories will be formed on October 31st. They have contended that the Presidential Orders and the new legislation unconstitutionally undermine the scheme of Article 370.
