Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh Turns Union Territories From Today:- After the Centre scrapped Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert and no unusual incidents have been registered in the valley state. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is ceased and from today, it is converted into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019. The state turned into union territories after 86 days after the Parliament scrapped Article 370. India will now have one state less and has two more union territories added to the country. India will now have 28 states and the number of union territories reaches nine.

Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislature but Ladakh will be a union territory without any legislature like Chandigarh. Both Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh will be headed by Lieutenant Governors under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. GC Murmu and RK Mathur are the Lieutenant Governors. The swearing-in ceremony of Mathur will take place in Leh and for Murmu it takes in Srinagar. The Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ranbir Penal Code will cease to exist from Thursday. The Centre will have the direct control of the cops and the law and order in these union territories.

The union territories comes into existence today on the National Unity Day which marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel who happens to be the first Home Minister of the country and a renowned freedom fighter.
