The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N Chandrababu Naidu started his 12 hours Deeksha at the Dharna Chowk to protest against lack of sand availability in Andhra Pradesh. The same is also in protest against the failure of the YSRCP government to meet up with the sand shortage problem that has been consistently happening in the State.

The lack of sand availability and such scarcity has led to innumerable number of construction workers losing their jobs in the state. Owing to these kinds of situations, Chandrababu Naidu has decided to observe a day of Deeksha at the Dharna Chowk to bring the severity of the situation in front of the eyes of the current government.

Mr Naidu further decided to go on the hunger strike to pay tribute to the lost lives who have committed suicide because of the sand scarcity that has been bellowing down on the state. During his strike, Mr. Naidu also wore a garland of sand packets made by the party activities of his own party.

Addressing the issues, Mr. Naidu has time and time challenged the current YSRCP government to ensure seamless supply of sand for free and to ensure ways that curb the sand mafias from channeling in the sand supply to the other neighbouring states in the country. He also demanded an immediate compensation of INR 25 lacs for the families of the suicide victims and INR 10,000 for the building workers.

Several of the senior TDP leaders have already joined hands with Mr. Naidu and started arriving at the Dharna chowk to further support the cause. K. Atchannaidu and Varla Ramaiah have also extended their gratuitous invitation to Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan to come join them in the protest as well.
