In the year 2015, the government of Andhra Pradesh led by Nara Chandrababu Naidu has acquired 33000 acres for the construction of the new capital for the state in Amaravati. YS Jagan and his government in 2019 announced three capitals and came out with a bill in the Assembly house. The Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled out the three capital plan of the government and it directed the government to develop Amaravati as the capital of the state. The court said that the government lacked competence to shift the capital of the state. The AP government challenged the decision in the Supreme Court.
