YS Sharmila named as the AP Congress Chief:- YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has been selected as the new President of the state unit for the Congress party. On January 4, Sharmila joined the Congress and merged her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the party.
This decision by the Congress comes after Gidugu Rudra Raju resigned from the position of President of Andhra Pradesh. In a statement, the Congress announced that Rudra Raju will now serve as a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee. Sharmila, in order to prevent a split of votes that would have benefited former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, decided not to participate in the upcoming Assembly polls in Telangana.
Congress President Shri @Kharge has appointed Smt. @realyssharmila as the President of the @INC_Andhra with immediate effect.

Ahead of the November 30 Telangana Assembly polls, Sharmila declared that YSRTP would support the Congress party in the election. After performing well in Telangana, Congress is in plans to bounce back in Andhra Pradesh. The leading YSRCP is confident on retaining the power while TDP and Janasena are in plans to contest together and the seat allocation is currently being discussed.
