YS Jagan responds to Geethanjali's Death:- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed that strict measures be taken against individuals on social media who have been harassing a woman, ultimately leading to her suicide. He has also announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of Gothi Geetanjali Devi (29), who tragically took her own life after enduring harassment and online abuse. This incident, which occurred in Tenali, has sparked a political dispute, with the ruling YSR Congress party claiming that the woman's extreme actions were a result of harassment by social media groups affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP). The Chief Minister made it clear that those who engage in activities that violate the dignity and respect of women will face the full force of the law.
Furthermore, he has instructed officials to take decisive action against social media users who allegedly made inappropriate comments about Geetanjali during an interview on a YouTube channel. The woman became a target for trolling on social media after she praised the YSRCP government for providing her with a house site under the Jagaanna Housing Scheme during an event on March 4. The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over Geetanjali's suicide and offered his heartfelt condolences to her grieving family.
The officials were instructed to promptly assist Geetanjali's family. A sum of Rs 20 lakh has been authorized as a gesture of goodwill to aid them during this challenging period. Geetanjali's relatives have apparently filed a complaint with the authorities, asserting that she tragically ended her life due to harassment and online mistreatment.
