Nasscom has confirmed its comprehensive study of the BPO business by understanding the perceptions of teachers, students, parents, general public, employees and other companies about the career.
It is no news that the industry has grown to a far greater height than it has started out in the country. The BPO industry in India began as a small scale call centre business. There is a lack of awareness in India about the potential of this business. Philippies which has identified the potential of the BPO industry rightly is now a powerful force in the field.
Tata Consultancy Services would do the necessary study on behalf of Nasscom with aid from another third party organization. This is the first of its kind industry wide survey that is aimed at improving the understanding about the field among the stakeholders in India and around the world.
The rebranding of the industry was already outlined by numerous companies like Genpact, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, EXL, WNS, IBM, HGS, Convergys and Quatrro, in association with Nasscom. The BPO industry today plays a significant and, as opposed to the myth, a high profile role in various areas like Analytics, Finance, Aviation and healthcare.
Nasscom has already identified the areas in the industry that are the key to provide a boost for the industry - a perception study, talent pool development, branding, travel cost optimization and streamlining of employment processes .
A change in the perception of the job would bring a revolution to the BPO industry. The key focus should be to eliminate the myths related to the BPO business and create awareness.
