LCD loses charm

LCD televisions once ruled the market, at least in India. But things seemed to have altered with the entry of LED televisions. When LEDs entered the market too, people still opted not to go for LEDs initially given the high price tag. However, companies reduced the prices of LED televisions. Today, the maximum difference between LCD and LED television is 20 per cent. Earlier, this gap was up to 40 per cent.

So, if an LCD costs you Rs. 30,000, LED will come for Rs.45,000 while it was over Rs. 60,000 before. It could be the same reason why sales of LCD televisions have dipped like never before in 2012. In fact, the market surveys indicated that sales fell by at least 50 per cent this year.

Some of the experts have opined that just like how traditional televisions slowly lost charm in the market, LCD TVs too will slowly lose the significance and may even get wiped out in the cut throat competition between LED television sets.
