Rajasthan will now have its own icon of economic growth in the state as the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) board members have approved the Rajasthan government's proposal to set up the 19th oil refinery of the country in Barmer. This will also be the biggest investment in the state of Rajasthan.
On March 14th, a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed at Jaipur regarding the new refinery at Jaipur in the presence of Veerappa Moily, the Union Minister for petroleum and natural gas.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Askhok Gehlot said that the proposed refinery is a landmark achievement for the entire state making it the stepping stone to growth.
The total cost of the project is expected to go beyond Rs 36,000 crores upto Rs 40,000 Crores. The figure will be finalized in the MoU, Gehlot added. This refinery will churn out over 9 million tonnes. The land for the same shall be provided by the state itself and the state has already started the discussion of land acquisition.
