India is a country in dire need of quality DNA forensic labs. All current ones, with the exception of one, are government owned. The launch of the first DNA testing lab in Gurgaon has opened up the need for more such labs across the nation.

Rising crime rate in India calls for plenty of forensic labs to cater to a high requirement of DNA testing. There are less than 40 forensic labs in the country, struggling to give out reports in time. Hence, private labs could bridge this gap between demand and supply. They can even speed up decisions on criminal cases.

DNA testing is a crucial tool in recent days to analyze rapes and other heinous crimes. Forensic labs are a real need of the hour. Devashish Ohri, owner of the only private DNA forensic lab in Gurgaon, ws quoted as saying that while China has 300 or more forensic labs, India has only 28-30.
