Women employees have the edge over men as far as the airlines industry is concerned. Domestic and foreign airlines are continuing to prefer women over men for a profitable business, largely owing to lower costs and surprisingly, lower weights.
It is believed that having women employees aboard a plane saves on fuel costs and flight costs by easing up on take off/touch down and flight fuel consumption. Moreover, retention rates are higher among women, prompting airlines to take in more ladies.
As lesser weight contributes to an overall cost optimization, companies are increasingly implementing measures to reduce weight on their planes. In flight items including food, cutlery and magazines are set to get lighter in the name of cost cutting in a struggling economic environment.
Randstad India Staffing President and Marketing Director Aditya Narayan was quoted by Zee News as saying that the Indian airline industry is under severe cost pressure, making companies resort to all possible steps to streamline their operations and improve efficiency to protect their bottom-line.
Also, a greater availability of females in the airlines industry has tilted the balance in favor of women.
