The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) today put the decision on hold for new norms in the allotment of new PAN Cards. However the reasons for this decision are not known so far and till further orders, the old norms will continue to obtain a PAN card for an applicant.
CBDT issued a notice earlier today and its written, “It has decided to keep in abeyance the decision to change the procedure for PAN allotment till further orders ... In the meantime the old procedure of PAN application and allotment shall continue.”
A day before the Republic Day, the Finance Ministry announced new norms for acquiring new PAN cards and this norms include providing original documents related to identification, address and date of birth. But as the Tax experts criticized this decision, the CBDT rolled back its order.
