TS Contributes 5% To Country’s GST Kitty:- While the deadline to file first tax returns under the new tax regime ended on Monday, nearly five percent has been contributed by the Telangana State to the country’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) kitty.

For the month of July, the GST collected from the entire country was Rs 65,000 crore, while the TS contributed Rs 3,200 crore within the deadline. Interestingly, only 34,000 traders paid the GST, while the total number of GST-registered traders is 2.05 lakh.

Principal secretary, commercial taxes department, Somesh Kumar, said that though there are 2.05 lakh GST registered traders in the state, only 34,236 traders are major traders, who account for 99.05 per cent of the total taxes collected.

“Even during the previous VAT regime, the trend was the same. About 32,000 traders out of 1.90 lakh VAT registered traders used to contribute 95 per cent of the total taxes collected.

In the GST regime, over 34,000 traders have filed their first returns, which shows that there is no decrease in tax collection in the GST regime,” Mr Kumar added.

He further said through various cesses, the Centre got Rs 444 crore, out of the total amount of the GST collected. Under SGST, Rs 781 crore was collected, and under IGST, Rs 878 crore was collected. Under CGST, another Rs 505 crore was collected. The state will get a share in IGST, which will be credited into the account of the state government later, said Mr. Kumar.
