On Wednesday, the Supreme Court has passed the ultimatum on the basic amenities in the schools which have no infrastructure these days. It has given them a period of six months to ensure that all the schools in the nation would have to provide the basic facilities of drinking water and toilets to all the students in the schools.

The order applies to government and private schools, regardless of their minority status.

The decision was given by a bench headed by Justice K S Radhakrishnan. The bench said that all its previous directions pertaining to providing infrastructure should be implemented within the time frame fixed by it.

Last year on October 18, the court has passed directions to schools nationwide to provide toilets to the schools, especially for girls in all the government schools.

The court maintained that parents do not send children to schools where there are no bathrooms and hence the schools should build bathrooms.

The court had also observed that not providing the infrastructure was a violation of the right to free and compulsory education of children guaranteed under Article 21-A of the Constitution.
