Finally, BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi broke the silence of his relationship status. On Wednesday, Modi filed his nomination for the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat and for the first time, Modi filled the column of Spouse in the nomination papers.
Modi entered the name of Jashodaben as his wife to whom he got married at the age of 17. She is a retired school teacher in Brahmanwada, a village about 35km from Modi's hometown, Vadnagar. However after two weeks of the nuptials, Modi never returned to her.
In addition to this, the 63 year three time Gujarat CM, claimed in the nomination papers that he has no information about Jashodaben's income, IT returns and PAN details. In the last four Gujarat assembly elections in 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2012, Modi has left the column blank and addressing a rally at Sujanpur in Himachal Pradesh in mid-February, Modi had said he is single.
Lashing out Modi, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted “Modi accepts his Marital Status. Can Women of this Country trust a Man who stalks a woman, deprives his wife of her right? Vote against Modi.”
Coming to the assets of Modi, they are at Rupees 1.50 crores which includes cash in hand worth Rs 29,700, bank deposits of about Rs 44 lakh, infrastructure bonds of Rs 20,000 and National Savings Certificates worth Rs 4.34 lakh. Modi purchased real estate worth Rs 2.47 lakh and the market value of it is now about Rs 1 crore.
