All about the Indian traditional snack Shakkar Para:- Shakkar Para is an Indian traditional snack that is made during the festivals in the country. It is crispy, sweet and is in diamond shaped. It can be made easily at home and Maida, sugar, rava, ghee, salt, milk and oil are the basic ingredients used to prepare Shakkar Para. This can be made in two ways. Add some sugar to make the dough and cut them into diamond-shaped pieces. They should be deep fried till they are made crispy. The other method is to prepare the dough without adding sugar. The diamond shaped pieces are then coated with sugar syrup after completing the process of deep fry. The first process is popular in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and South India while the second is mostly done in Rajasthan.
Ingredients:
- One and half cups maida
- One tablespoon Rava
- 2 tablespoons Ghee or oil
- ΒΌ cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk or water
- A pinch of salt
- Oil for deep frying
Heat one third of a cup of milk until it turns warm and pour them in a bowl. Take the warm milk to dissolve the sugar and grind it into a small jar. Stir it using a spoon so that the sugar dissolves completely. Take one and a half cup of maida, a tablespoon of rava, a pinch of salt and two tablespoons ghee. Add some oil into the same bowl. Divide the dough into two equal portions and take the first portion and make it round. Flatten it using your palms and place it on a rolling board.
Roll it into a 9-inch diameter disc. Seal the edges and press them to roll again. Cut them into small pieces using a sharp knife. Take them into a plate. Heat the oil and keep a medium flame. After it is medium hot, add the dough into the oil and remove it after it turns brown. Manage the temperature on a medium flame. Store them all the night in an airtight container and they can be tasty for 2-3 weeks when kept at room temperature.
