Can Hyderabad withstand this Monsoon season?:- The monsoon season is fast approaching, but Hyderabad is not adequately prepared for the heavy rains. Despite plans to address urban flooding, the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) remains incomplete, leaving the city vulnerable to potential disaster. The GHMC and CDMA have reported that the SNDP works, which were meant to upgrade the stormwater drain network in and around the city, are behind schedule. The desilting of nalas is also progressing slowly. The completion of these projects could significantly reduce the risk of urban flooding, say GHMC engineers. The SNDP includes 58 proposed works with an estimated cost of Rs 985.45 crore, with 37 of them falling under GHMC limits. Five major works, including those on the Hussainsagar nala and the Balkapur nala, could prevent flooding in several low-lying areas in the central part of the city, but they are still unfinished. Likewise, the Badangpet and Nizampet municipal corporations and Jalpally and Kompally municipalities have yet to complete over half of their 21 proposed works. This lack of preparation for the monsoon season was evident in places like Panjagutta flyover, the road in front of Telangana Assembly, and Jubilee Hills checkpost to Madhapur. GHMC and CDMA officials cited land acquisition issues and court cases as reasons for the delayed SNDP works, but assured that monsoon emergency teams were in place. There are lot of speculations that NTR and Prashanth Neel film was kept on hold as Prashanth Neel is focused on Salaar 2. Marking the birthday of NTR, the team released a birthday poster and they made it clear that NTR and Neel film will start rolling from August this year. Dragon is the title speculated for the film but the team hasn't made any statement about the title. Prashanth Neel is currently working on the final script and the pre-production work starts very soon. Six dead in a brutal accident in Palnadu district:- Police reported that a bus carrying 42 people, who had cast their votes on May 13th, collided with a lorry in the Chilakaluripet mandal of Palnadu district today (May 15), resulting in the deaths of at least six people. Those injured were treated at Chilakaluripet town government hospital before being referred to Guntur for further medical attention. The deceased have been identified as four residents of district Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, namely Anji (35), Uppgundur Kashi (65), Uppugundur Lakshmi (55), and Mupparaju Khyati Saishri (8), while the identities of the other two are still being established. With seven matches left in the IPL 2024 league phase, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have all been eliminated from playoff contention due to their disastrous consecutive defeats. Meanwhile, five more teams are fighting for the remaining three spots in the IPL 2024 playoffs. With this in mind, let's look at a scenario where all the remaining teams in the IPL 2024 playoff race could qualify. Rajasthan Royals: Despite losing their last three games, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are heavy favorites to finish in the top two in the league phase of IPL 2024. Meanwhile, SRH needs to win at least one game in the upcoming tournament to qualify for the playoffs. If they win both games, they can challenge KKR and RR to finish in the top two. However, if they lose both games, CSK, RCB and even LSG could end up at the top. The Capitals also need SRH to lose their two upcoming games by wide margins. DC also wants CSK to beat RCB and LSG MI. Games: 13, Points: 12, NRR: -0.482 Remaining games: LSG (H) Lucknow Super Giants: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are another contender for a place in the top four. KL Rahul's team is at seventh place in the IPL 2024 table after collecting 12 points from 12 games. However, LSG will face the struggling Delhi Capitals (May 14) and Mumbai Indians (May 17) in its last two league games.
