Sore Throat Remedies

Feeling sore on your throat, don't rush to the doctor. No doubt, you want to get relief as fast as possible. Have patience, the remedies lie at home and at the local medicine counter.

Following are some easy remedies to get relief from sore and scrachy throat as well as from hoarse voice.

Anti-inflammatory drugs

Check your medicine cabinet, the remedy for your sore throat may be lying there. You can safely take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are easily available as over-the-counter medicines. These drugs are anti-inflammatories as well as pain relievers so you will feel better soon.

Gargling with saltwater

Gargling with warm salt water two or three times in a day helps to reduce swelling in the throat and also gives relief from mucus by loosen them. Also gargling helps to flush out the bacteria.

Sucking lozenges

Sucking lozenges will keep your throat moist by stimulating saliva production. For better relief suck on lozenges that have menthol or eucalyptus as their ingredients.

Take cough syrup

It is advisable to take over-the-counter cough syrups as it helps to ease soreness of your throat. Cough syrup will coat your throat and provide some relief. The cough syrups usually make you feel drowsy, so if you are going to work opt for a non-drowsy formula.

Drink lots of fluids

Fill yourself with fluids. It can be water, fruit juice or chicken soup. Drink so much fluid that the urine is light yellow. It keeps the mucous membranes moist that helps to fight bacteria and other allergens.

Tea

Drinking tea at regular interval provides fluid as well as relief for your soar throat. Any variety of tea - black, green, or white leaves - will help as they all contain antioxidants and are good for your immunity and prevent infection.

Chicken broth

An age-old remdy, chicken soup is good for your sore throat as well as for your health as it provides the much needed nutrition that your body needs to fight the infection.

Take the day off

Sore throat is generally caused by cold viruses. So the body needs ample rest to fight the infection. Rest is the wisest thing you can do, when you contact cold.

Antibiotics

An antibiotics will not be effective for a sore throat that is the result of a cold virus. Antibiotics are effective, only when taken on the advice of the doctor, and for a bacterial infection in your throat. And always complete the full course of the antibacterial medicine.
