Improve mental health by increasing greenery

Environment and health are closely related. A recent study has revealed that green cover around your home positively affects your mental health. The research stated that countries with middle to high income, face the problem of public health and that unipolar depressive disorder is a major cause of disability, according to Mathew P. White and colleagues.

Other studies have also pointed out that urbanization is the root cause of unhappiness as almost 80% of the world's population live in cramped space with little room for plants in developed regions of the world. Similar other research also found a link between green space and happiness. However, none of the findings could convincingly link the role of nature with mental health. So White and his colleagues took up the study.

To understand the role of nature in people's welbeing in the long run, White and his team conducted a comparative study on hundreds of people in the UK, regarding their mental health, who shifted from concrete urban setting to the countryside with abundant greenery. The study revealed that those who moved to greener area were happier after relocating than earlier.
