Spending time outdoors has a positive effect on the brain:- The coronavirus pandemic brought enough problems for the mankind and many of them are left in stress due to various issues. If you are out in the environment exposing for fresh air, then you are in a good state of mind and it is good for your brain and for your body. As per the study conducted by Max Planck Institute for Human Development and the Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) which is published in The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, all those who are out in fresh air are said to be positive. This is good for the brain structure and for general well-being. The study showed several human brain benefits even during a short stay outdoors. The researchers examined six healthy and middle-aged city dwellers for over six months.
More than 280 scans are conducted for their brains using the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The study was focused on self-reported behavior in the last 24 hours. They were also asked about their fluid intake and consumption of beverages that had caffeine. The amount of time spent inside, outside along with their physical activity were analyzed. Right from the seasonal difference to the duration of sunshine was taken into consideration. The time spent outdoors was positively related to the gray matter in right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. This is the lateral part of the frontal lobe in the cerebral cortex. The researchers have performed statistical calculations to find the influence of the sunshine duration along with the physical activity and the fluids intake.
For all those who spent time outdoors, the brain structure and mood improved well. This also had an impact on concentration, working memory. The results are extremely positive for the brain and the researchers suggest to spent a good time outdoors per day.
