The Supreme Court has allowed the repairing of covers and providing other facilities at the makeshift Ram Lalla Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. The apex court said the exercise has to be undertaken by the District Collector of Faizabad under the supervision of two independent observers.
SC has earlier asked the Centre and the state government to consider providing better facilities to the pilgrims at 'Ram Janam Bhoomi' site near the disputed structure at Ayodhya. Supreme Court has asked the government to file its response within four weeks after taking note of the basic minimum facilities that have been sought for pilgrims in an application filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
Subramanian Swamy had submitted that the pilgrims, who are devotees of Lord Rama, are deprived of basic facilities like drinking water and toilets and are facing difficulty due to the inadequate arrangements made by both the Centre and U P government.
Subramanian Swamy had submitted that the status quo order passed by the apex court in 1996 was limited to prohibit the building of any structure at the disputed site and not to the repairs. He had sought an order from the apex court to "ameliorate the lot of millions of Hindu pilgrims who make the pilgrimage to the site of the 'Ram Janma Bhoomi' at Ayodhya, to have a 'darshan' and perform 'pooja'."
"Let us do something. If possible, do something for the upkeep of the place and provide facilities for visitors," a bench of Justices AR Dave and Kurian Joseph said.
Sri Ram Janmabhumi was having a temple of Lord Sriram, which was demolished by the Mughal invader Babar and constructed a mosque of the debris of the temple. From the period of Babar, Hindus were fighting for the rights of the temple. Many sacrificed their lives for the right of Sriram Janmabhumi. No namaz was performed in the mosque like structure constructed in the place of Ram Janmabhumi. But the pseudo secularist of independent India denied the rightfull right of the Hindus for the sake of vote bank politics.
