New Zealand has registered their first victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 over Sri Lanka at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. New Zealand was put to bat first by Sri Lanka but the home team was off to a flying start with openers McCullum and Guptill thrashing the Lankan bowlers. McCullum completed half century in this process, but the visiting team bounced back and took two quick wickets. Kane Williams continued the run of NZ and in the end it was Corey Anderson who took it on the opposition. Anderson helped NZ to cross the 300 runs mark and posted a huge total.
In reply, Sri Lanka too made good start but failed to carry on the momentum. Daniel Vettori broke into the run chase of Sri Lanka by removing crucial batsmen like Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene. Then after Sri Lanka never looked in game and kept on losing wickets quite constantly. Thirimanne was the top scorer with 65 while captain Angelo Mathews scored 46. In the end Sri Lanka was bowled out for 233 runs losing the match by 98 runs.
Corey Anderson was awarded Man of the Match for his contribution of 75 runs and two wickets.
