The co-host of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, New Zealand have defeated Scotland in their opening game at Dunedin. NZ's seamer Trent Boult played a key role in the victory and was also awarded Man of the Match award for his best performance. It is NZ which won the toss and put the visitors to bat first. In the very second over of the match, Boult removed two Scottish batsmen and from then on Scotland never looked in game. However, Matt Machan and Richie Berrington tried to build the Scotland's innings. Both completed half centuries but could not carry the scorecard forward as they were removed in the 28 and 30 over. In the end Scotland were allout for 142 runs in the 37th over.
In reply to the short total, NZ had to struggle a lot. Scotland bowlers took regular wickets keeping the pressure on lower order of NZ. No Blackcaps batsmen reached a score of 40 and Kane Williams was the top scorer with 38. Iain Wardlaw and Josh Davey took three wickets each which rose tension in the NZ camp. However, the co-host reached the target in the 25th over with three wickets to spare.
