BCCI felicitated Virender Sehwag today, before the start of the fourth Test match between India and South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. Secretary Anurag Thakur presented Sehwag, a glittering trophy for his achievements.
The recently retired Sehwag, had got a rare respect from BCCI, through the felicitation. While speaking in the felicitation programme, Sehwag thanked all his former India captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, and also Sachin Tendulkar, for guidance throughout his career.
Sehwag ignores Dhoni!
The notable thing is, Sehwag avoided to mention Dhoni’s name, under whom he played for the national team for almost six years.
Speaking on the occasion, Sehwag said, “I want to thank my father for allowing me to play the game of cricket and give me freedom to do whatever I wanted to. All my coaches, especially AN Sharma for making me the cricketer I am.”
Sehwag further praised a few of his friends, including Raju Sharma, Delhi u-19 coach.
He applauded physios and trainers, for their contribution, during his career. Finally, Sehwag made a special mention about his fans, thanking them for ‘making him Sehwag’ and for standing by him, in all the odd situations.
While Delhi and Distrcit Cricket Association (DDCA) is yet to make a decision on the felicitation of Sehwag, the BCCI has temporarily named the far-end stand at the Ambedkar Stadium end as “Viru 319” after the batsman’s highest Test score.
