IPL draft: Dhoni, Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja up for grabs

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina,  Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane, will be up for grabs for the two new IPL teams in the draft to be held tomorrow.

Sanjeev Goenka's New Rising won the bid for the Pune franchise, while Intex won the bid for Rajkot after a reverse bidding process held in Delhi recently, to replace the two  suspended teams, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, for the next two editions to be held in 2016 and 2017.

Top international stars, New Zealander Brendon McCullum, Australia's Shane Watson, who are retired from the international cricket, are available for picking by the Twenty20 League.

On the other hand, from a total of 50 players, current captain Steven Smith, and West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who played for suspended IPL teams CSK and RR in the last edition earlier this year, will also play their role, this time.

Being the lowest or negative bidders, Pune will be given the first choice to buy the new team for two years in the draft to be held at the Mumbai Cricket Association's recreation centre at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are suspended for involving a few of their officials and co-owners, in 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. The issue was probed by the Supreme Court appointed Justice (retd) R M Lodha committee. It is because of this scandal reason, the bidding process was necessitated for the two new franchises.

However, after serving out their suspension, both the CSK and RR will be allowed back in the league, dividing the players of the two suspended franchises into two groups - capped and uncapped, and then, the top names will be sold through the IPL draft system. The two new teams will have a minimum of Rs 40 crore and a maximum of Rs 66 crore to buy players.
